Japanese gyoza are delicious dumplings, famous for their irresistible crispy outside and juicy inside. At OKIDOKI, you can find both frozen gyoza ready to cook easily and fresh gyoza dough to make them from scratch. Here, you'll learn how to make them at home with perfect results!

🛒 Ingredients

For frozen gyozas:

  • 1 package of frozen gyozas (available at OKIDOKI)
  • Vegetable oil
  • Water (for steaming)

To make gyozas from scratch:

  • 1 package of gyoza dough (available at OKIDOKI)
  • 250g minced pork or chicken
  • 100g finely chopped cabbage
  • 2 grated garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped spring onion
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

🥟 How to prepare crispy gyoza step by step

▶️ If you use frozen gyozas:

  1. Heat a nonstick skillet with 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat.
  2. Place the frozen gyozas directly into the pan with the flat side down.
  3. Cook for 2-3 minutes until lightly browned.
  4. Add approximately 100ml of water to the pan and cover quickly.
  5. Cook over medium heat for about 5-6 minutes until all the water has evaporated.
  6. Uncover and let cook for 1-2 more minutes until the base is very crispy.

▶️ If you prepare the gyozas from scratch:

  1. Mix the minced meat with cabbage, garlic, ginger, spring onion, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt and pepper until well combined.
  2. Take a gyoza dough, lightly moisten the edge with water, place a teaspoon of filling in the center and close it by forming small folds.
  3. Repeat until all the filling is used.
  4. Cook following the same steps as frozen to achieve the perfect crispy texture.

🥢 How to make traditional gyoza sauce

Combine in a small bowl:

  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Mix well and serve in small dishes to dip the gyozas.
